I really just want to run the shop and have one of my employees supervise the spot and I will handle the business aspect.If I want to start my own barber/salon do I need to be a licensed barber or stylist to start my own shop?
You don't need a license to own the business. Everyone you hire will have to have a license. My state requires that a licensed Cosmetologist manage salons or spas, if you only off nails it can be a licensed nail tech or and Esthetician if it is only skin care. Your state may not have this requirement. Check with your states Board of Cosmetology. It may be combined with the Barbering board.
